Back to the Basics for the Best Skin: Part 2 - Exfoliation

Posted by

Restore your skin’s natural radiance with gentle exfoliation, step # 2 in a 5-step cycle to help promote healthy skin with a gorgeous glow.  Simply stated, Exfoliation removes the outer layer of skin to reveal the newer skin beneath, while simultaneously triggering the repair response in the dermis...in an effort to replace that outer layer that was just removed.” (Dermascope magazine, Michele D’Allaird).  I recommend exfoliating your skin 1-2 times per week for most skin types.  Be careful to not over-do it by exfoliating too frequently, or by using products that are too harsh for your skin.  Some scrubs on the market contain apricot kernels or walnut shells that may actually cause microscopic cuts to the skin, so make sure you are using high quality products that are effective but gentle for your skin!  Dry and combination skin types do well with a gentle exfoliant. I love how polished and smooth the skin feels after using Charisma Skin’s Micro-Mineral Resurfacing Treatment. Oily skin and blemish prone skin typically respond best to an enzyme exfoliation, or products with Alpha Hydroxy Acids (like Gycolic Acid), or Salicylic Acid.  I recommend our Pineapple Papaya Enzyme Peel for combination-oily and oily skin types to help improve the texture and appearance of your skin.
