Eye Care Extraordinaire

Posted by

The eyes are the focal points of beauty on the face and are usually the first thing we notice when looking at one another. It has been said that the eyes are the “windows to the soul”. Unfortunately, they may also be the first area to show the signs of aging due to the very delicate skin in the eye area. So how do we keep our eyes looking their best?

Esthetic Care

Microcurrent.  Microcurrent delivers electrical energy to specific points designed to re-educate the muscles. This is especially helpful in the eye area, as it loses tone more rapidly than other areas of the face. Microcurrent typically provides an immediate lift to the skin. It is important to note, however, that long-term results are cumulative and a series of facials that include microcurrent are highly recommended to achieve the best results.

Home care.  Home-care products are of the utmost importance when it comes to keeping the eye area looking healthy and youthful. The best way to stop age-related skin conditions, such as fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, is to prevent it from occurring in the first place. First and foremost is protecting against future damage, which is where protective sunglasses (ideally a wrap style) and broad-spectrum sunscreens come in. There are very few eye products available that contain sunscreen. Due to the higher chance of sensitivities in this area, ingredients must be chosen carefully. A simple formula with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide is best. Charisma Skin’s Mineral Liquid Powder FoundationLoose Mineral Powder Foundation and BB Creme are excellent products that provide broad-spectrum physical-barrier sunscreen (Zinc oxide/Titanium dioxide) for the entire face, including the delicate eye area.

Moisturizers.  It is also important to keep the skin surrounding the eyes moisturized due to the lack of sebaceous (oil) glands. The decrease in oil production can lead to dryness and dehydration, creating fine lines. Moisturizers and hydrators not only attract and hold moisture, but commonly have other beneficial ingredients to enhance the eye area.

Antioxidants.  Antioxidants are a must when it comes to eye care as they fight off harmful free radicals that can damage proteins in the delicate eye area.

Peptides.  Peptides are a highly effective ingredient for the eye area due to the low chance of irritation and their ability to stimulate collagen production.

Vasoconstriction. Products containing vitamin K or arnica can reduce the appearance of dark circles caused by vascularity.

Check out Charisma Skin’s ALA Eye & Neck Lifting Creme that contains proven ingredients such as Peptides, Vitamins A, C, E & K, and Co-Q-10 to help reduce the appearance of lines and dark circles while lifting and firming the skin. Caring for the eyes is as important as caring for the skin on the rest of the face. The lack of circulation, thinner skin and decrease in oil production leave the eye area open for more visible signs of aging. Combination treatments including esthetic and home care are the best option to keep the eyes looking their very best!
